Workplace discrimination

Workplace discrimination refers to the unfair treatment of employees or job applicants based on characteristics such as race, gender, age, religion, disability, or other protected attributes. It involves actions or policies that negatively affect an individual or group because of their membership in one or more of these categories. Discrimination can manifest in various forms, including hiring, firing, promotions, pay, job assignments, and harassment, creating a hostile or unequal work environment.

Example
Suppose a female employee, Jane, consistently receives lower pay and fewer opportunities for advancement compared to her male colleagues, despite having the same qualifications and performance. This constitutes workplace discrimination based on gender, as Jane is experiencing unequal treatment solely because she is a woman, which violates her rights and creates an unfair work environment.
