Succession planning

Succession planning is a strategic human resource process aimed at identifying and developing potential internal candidates to fill key leadership and critical roles within an organization when current incumbents vacate those positions due to retirement, promotion, or other reasons.

Example
A multinational corporation, anticipating the retirement of its CEO in the next five years, implements succession planning by identifying high-potential executives within the company and providing them with targeted training and development opportunities to prepare them for the future CEO role.
