Partial pay refers to a compensation arrangement in human resources where an employee receives only a portion of their regular salary or wages for a specific period, often due to reduced work hours, temporary leave, or other circumstances affecting their regular income.

Example
During a company-wide temporary shutdown, employees are placed on partial pay, receiving 50% of their usual salary until normal operations resume.
